Notices for this site and this office
Kitchen notices
This page describes what this site actually does and what this office actually holds. It is short because both are small, and it says nothing about practices we do not have.
What this site is made of
Six pages of hand-written files, a stylesheet, one script and two drawings. There is no content system behind it and no database. Nothing on it logs you, counts you or follows you to another site.
No cookies are set by these pages, so there is no list of cookies to publish and no banner to click through. Nothing is written to your browser’s storage. There is no form here that posts anywhere: the two sums — the cover planner on the front page and the batch sheet on the week page — are arithmetic done by your own browser as you type, and the figures you put into them never leave the device you are reading on. If you turn the script off, both pages keep the whole method written out in words so the sums can be done on paper.
One request does go off this server: the stylesheet for the two typefaces, Prata and Figtree, is fetched from Google’s font service. That is the only third party involved in showing you this page, and it is told nothing about you beyond what any request for a file tells a server.
What arrives in the mailbox, and what is kept
Bookings come by email, so what we hold is an email thread. In practice that is a name, an evening, a number of people, the sitting we confirmed, and whatever you chose to tell us about what you cannot eat.
Those threads stay in the kitchen mailbox while they are useful, which means while the booking is ahead of us and for a short while after it, so that a changed or disputed table can be checked against what was actually agreed. Past bookings are cleared out of the mailbox in the same sweep as the diary, at the end of a season. Nothing is copied into a list, a loyalty scheme or a mailing: there is no mailing.
What you tell us about allergies is read out to whoever is cooking that week and written on the day’s prep sheet, which is thrown away with the rest of the sheet after service. It is not kept as a record about you.
If you want the thread deleted sooner, say so in a reply and it will be, except where a booking is still ahead of us and we need it to hold the table.
Allergens are a Wednesday question
The board is rewritten every week, so a printed list of what is in each dish would be out of date by the following Wednesday. Instead the written allergen sheet is rewritten with the board, in the same hand, on the same morning, and it is kept at the pass. Ask for it and it is brought to the table; ask at the counter and it is under the till.
Because there is one kitchen, one stove and one oven, we will tell you plainly what is cooked alongside what rather than claim a separation the room does not have. A question about a dish is answered by the person who cooked it, on the day, which is the only version of that answer worth having.
The registered facts, and the office they sit at
The registered office is the cottage. It is the same building as the kitchen and the same door as the deliveries, so post addressed to the company arrives where the crates do.

Two trade descriptions are carried because there are two services: the counter through the day is the unlicensed one, and the dining room in the evening is the licensed one. Both are the same kitchen.
Writing to us about this page
Anything about this site, the figures in either of the two sums, or what is held in the mailbox goes to the same address as a booking. Say which page you are reading and what it says that is wrong, and it will be corrected rather than argued with. Pages here are edited by hand, so a correction is a one-line change and takes as long as it takes to make it.
When a notice on this page changes, it changes: there is no archive of previous versions, and nothing here is dated, because a dated notice that nobody has revisited is worse than an undated one that is true.
